The Australian Broadcasting
Corporation (ABC) is using the Masterclock® GPS200 master clock time
code generator and TCR500 time code receiver cards and software to establish
accurate time in their broadcast network. The majority of the systems
in this project have now been successfully deployed in sites around
the country including New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania,
Queensland, and Northern Territory.
The ABC had embarked on a
roll-out of Digital Audio Workstations (DAW) around the extensive national
radio network. This resulted in a requirement to provide an accurate
time source in each site including eight capital city stations as well
as over forty regional centres.
The Capital city sites already had established masterclock systems
which were producing a GPS referenced UTC signal.
The TCR500 PCI card was installed in a server
and used this UTC feed to establish a NTP service for each site.
The Regional sites had a
different requirement in that there was no existing master clock. In
these cases the GPS 200 master clock was installed to establish an accurate
time source in each site. A local server was fitted with the TCR500
PCI card and converted the time code to NTP, providing an accurate source
of time for the local DAW systems.
